What is an HRIS?

HRIS stands for human resource information system or otherwise known as human resource management system (HRMS), which is basically the intertwining of human resources and information technology through human resource (HR) software.

 

From small to big businesses, HRIS handles activities such as accounting, management, payroll and benefits. HRIS handles tasks efficiently and in a quality manner that surpasses manual efforts, thus making it an effective component of an organisation’s HR core functionality.

 

When is the right time?

Whether your budget allows it or not, there will come a time when business becomes impractical (perhaps even a compliance issue) to track all your employees’ information in spreadsheets. Typically, we recommend that organizations with 25 employees or more get a HRIS as it becomes more challenging in gathering, updating, and tracking data for each employee.

 

When a business scales, employees would have more tasks, meetings, and KPIs to deal with and would compromise on team building, which is essential in team performance and collaboration. Having a capable HRIS frees the HR department from administrative tasks and helps them focus on more interactive aspects for employees.

 

Although the recommended headcount is 25, it would highly depend on your organizational goals. Some companies may have under 25 employees but whose management invests in HR capabilities for the workplace or some CEOs would prefer their HR manager focusing more on strategic goals instead of operational goals.
